Background Publications Establishing Oral Microbiome Expertise

In a recent review from NIH ("A review of 10 years of human microbiome research activities at the US National Institutes of Health, Fiscal Years 2007-2016"), two of our papers were considered as pioneering studies that helped lay the foundation for microbiome research and inform the development of the Human Microbiome Project (HMP) program.

Publications using HOMINGS and HOMIM

HOMIM's were used extensively in microbiome studies at The Forsyth Institute (9 PIs) and in other collaborative studies with national and international academic institutions (more than 120 investigative teams), government including NIH (6 investigative teams), and industry (12 companies). As a result of many of these studies, there were 61 peer-reviewed publications (most recently in 2019), 8 reviews describing HOMIM, and since 2009, over 50 national and international abstracts or presentations. HOMINGS, the HOMIM replacement, was also utilized by many investigators or teams. As of May 2021, there were 33 peer-reviewed, HOMINGS-associated publications and 3 HOMINGS-associated reviews. In addition, there have been over 20 abstracts/presentations at national and international meetings.
